Preliminary Task

This is my preliminary task.

The 180 degree rule is essential in most scenes in which conversing happens. It is often used when two people are facing each other and talking. The 180 degree rule is that the camera must be facing the two people at the same angle when they are to appear on-screen. It can be anywhere along an imaginary circle, or arc, as shown above as long as it is symmetrical and on the same side of the two people. I think I executed the rule rather averagely. In the medium shot, the second person appears slightly too far away from the camera and withdrawn from the scene, which I will need to consider next time I try this rule. The framing of my shots were yet again average, because at some points, in the medium shots, it seems that the second person is sinking into the bottom half of the screen. This isn't actually visual, but when looked at as a whole, he does look rather low down. These mistakes could be due to the restriction of room available to us, as it was a very cluttered classroom. I used a short insert shot of the second person showing the bag to the first person which, in my opinion, flows very well with the overall conversing scene. I think in general, the scene flows well, but could be better. At one point I cut out the speech too early and it sounds very obvious when you listen to it closely. The sound is generally continuous, there is little, if any alteration in the volume or quality through the shot. However, the lighting could be better. When recording and editing, the light appears normal and consistent, but after the full thing was rendered, the flaws became more obvious. In the first persons shots, the lighting is significantly darker than in the second persons shots.
